Jim Larrañaga’s seat was heating up after three straight losing seasons in Coral Gables, Fla., but he persuaded talented guard Isaiah Wong, Kameron McGusty and Sam Waardenburg to return. When Larrañaga landed former DePaul point guard Charlie Moore from the transfer portal, it turned the Hurricanes into a contender in the ACC (they finished fourth). All four players average more than 30 minutes, and the Hurricanes have committed just seven turnovers in two NCAA Tournament games. After squeezing out of a first-round nail-biter against USC, the Hurricanes weren’t intimidated when drawn into a second-round matchup against future lottery pick Jabari Smith and No. 2 seed Auburn in the Round of 32, earning a 79-61 win.

“(Kyle) Hendricks is the guy, man. He’s been doing this for a long time. I’ll pitch Day 5, I really don’t care when I pitch. I’m going to be out there hopefully for 30-plus starts and that’s the goal. You need at least five good starters from the top down, so as far as where I’m pitching in the rotation, I’ve never been prideful on that. I truly believe Hendricks should be the opening-day (starter) just because of his career — unbelievable in the playoffs, his resume speaks for itself — so he’s the guy who should be handed the ball each and every opening day as long as he’s here.”

Hampton during an NBA basketball game on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in Orlando, Fla. Mayor Eric Adams will announce Thursday, March 23, 2022, that he’s exempting athletes and performers from the city’s vaccine mandate for private workers, a move that will allow Irving to play home games and unvaccinated baseball players to take the field when their season begins in a few weeks. The Sox also announced one-year deals with pitchers Jason Bilous, Ryan Burr, Dylan Cease, Garrett Crochet, Matt Foster, Michael Kopech, Jimmy Lambert, José Ruiz, Anderson Severino, Bennett Sousa and Jonathan Stiever; catchers Zack Collins, Yermín Mercedes and Seby Zavala; infielders Jake Burger, Romy Gonzalez, Danny Mendick and Gavin Sheets; and outfielders Micker Adolfo, Blake Rutherford and Andrew Vaughn.

The addition of Hill is immense for Tagovailoa heading into his third season. Hill will be paired with Jaylen Waddle, who broke an NFL rookie receptions record in 2021. Among others, Miami also has oft-injured veteran DeVante Parker under contract and signed former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., who could most play in the slot. Tight end Mike Gesicki, who was given the franchise tag, also often lines up out wide.
