Allie Quigley and Ruthy Hebard each added 13 points for the Sky (7-7), who led 67-64 after three quarters and pulled away in the final three minutes, sparked by a corner 3-pointer from DeShields that broke open a two-point game. Candace Parker and Vandersloot followed with baskets as the Sky pulled away.
Despite missing two weeks, Alzolay still is second on the team in strikeouts with 62, and his 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings is second among Cubs pitchers with at least 10 starts. He is in the 61st percentile in Major League Baseball in chase rate, and his 28.2% whiff rate is on pace for a career high.
Gasol’s brother, Marc, also made the list, as did Ricky Rubio. Both were key for Spain when it won the world championship two years ago in China. A total of eight world champions are on the preliminary list. Marc Gasol plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Cubs had emerged from their early-season hitting cocoon, bringing a season-high .241 average into June after falling to .203 on April 28. But despite the warmer weather and better hitting conditions, they’ve dropped back down to .228, ranking 27th in the majors by becoming dependent on the long ball.
Outside of all the talk about him hosting “Jeopardy,” Rodgers has never shown much enthusiasm when it comes to taking the TV plunge. Yet recently, during his tango with Green Bay, he hasn’t exactly kept a low profile. On July 6, Rodgers will wear an open microphone during TNT’s presentation of “The Match,” a made-for-TV golf event where he will team with Bryson DeChambeau, taking on Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady.
“All the time,” he said in a recent interview with the Tribune. “Somebody had to step up, and nobody was doing it. It was something I never dreamt I would do — be in sports, be in women’s sports. Having this league of powerful women, 80% of whom are women of color, primarily Black, I think is important. It’s critical it gets support and stability. It’s why I started and why I’m still doing it.”

“The team needs me, my teammates need me,” Moncada said. “We’re a team, and I know that even though I’m not feeling good, the easy response would be ‘I don’t want to play.’ But no, I want to play, I want to help this team, I want to help my teammates to win games.
The weekend night rule is an outdated part of the city ordinance on lights put in place in 1988. Wrigleyville residents didn’t want to have to search for parking when they got home from work on a Friday night, and the Cubs were willing to agree to the provision to allow lights for the first time in the ballpark’s history.
As a die-hard suburbanite, though, I’d kind of love it. After years of being told our quarter-acre lots and oceans of free parking will be irrelevant in the high-density, Uber-ized future, this turnabout would feel like sweet payback. Sure, the traffic would be godawful and taxpayers undoubtedly would be stuck with a huge chunk of the tab, but those are worries for another day.
