Gurnee police said they began an investigation into stolen school equipment in November. In the latest killing, police were called to the 4700 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the West Garfield Park neighborhood about 6:25 a.m. and found a man dead with a gunshot wound to the head in an empty lot, according to a police media notification. The man was initially unidentified, and responding officers believed the man had been shot “a while ago,” according to police.
