Gurnee police said they began an investigation into stolen school equipment in November. The school district had begun receiving calls from people who had bought gear on eBay, police said, but the equipment was locked and displayed messages that it belonged to the Woodland district. Officials compared serial numbers to confirm that the equipment did come from District 50.
