While the economy continues to recover, there were still 9.3 million people out of the U.S. labor force in May. Factors such as lingering virus fears, unemployment benefits and a lack of child care continue to weigh on the labor market and are keeping some adults from seeking work, according to Oren Klachkin, lead U.S. economist at Oxford Economics. While teenagers have benefited in recent months, he doesn’t expect this to be a long-term trend.

In years past, including the most recent show in 2019, active-duty Navy SEALS and Special Warfare crew members would free fall from two miles above ground, trailing smoke and making formations on the way down, and the Army Golden Nights would jump, often with celebrities in tow. A variety of civilian stunt pilots and demonstration teams such as Sean Tucker’s Team Oracle and the Matt Chapman Air Show would perform short segments over a full day of air- and water-born spectacles, announced by “Voice of the Show” Herb Hunter. But the 2021 show will just feature a “special solo demonstration” from the Blue Angels.

“For this project, I wanted to recreate a historical moment in some way. After going through a number of famous art pieces, this one really stood out as a perfect moment in time,” Bentel said. “Being a product designer, I see products as storytelling objects. The idea that the hundreds of objects that you use every day, like your toothbrush, your cup, your computer are utility, yes, but they also tell a story at the end of the day. They tell a story about aesthetics, the time place you’re in, the materials, and how they were made.”
