“I’ve been to Cincinnati when they’re at the bottom of the table and they’ve got 25, 30,000 fans,” he said. “No matter what the results are on the pitch, that cannot be any excuse whatsoever for not driving fans into the stadium. And we’ve got a great product to sell today, we’re playing exciting football. And so we’ve got a lot of great entertain(ing) soccer that we can sell to the fans of Chicago.”
“I look back because we had that long period where we didn’t have position players that we needed, but we had our pitching, starters and relievers,” La Russa said. “And then, the irony of baseball, we get as healthy as we can be and we lose three starters for a time. I don’t know how he wasn’t. Wilks was one and done. Jay Gruden and Bruce Allen, that was a dysfunctional staff within a dysfunctional organization. Anthony Lynn, I think it was game management more than anything that got him and he wanted to start Tyrod Taylor over Herbert.
“I think it’s too soon to say, especially without good case investigation (or) outbreak tracing,” said Jaline Gerardin, a Northwestern University assistant professor of preventive medicine who works on virus modeling. “We certainly know that with vaccination, masking, ventilation and regular testing, going to in-person school doesn’t have to end in infection or exposure.”
After a false-start penalty on Kmet pushed the Bears to third-and-6 at the 8 following Fields’ first play, Kenny Young tipped Dalton’s pass, and David Long Jr. dived to intercept it in the end zone. “You don’t see what’s going on, the interactions and the smiles, and you’re really focused on so many different other things and trying to be ahead of the game, where I was able to be in a moment as a fan,” Ross said. “It felt like this in the dugout, like we’re never out of the game, and it felt like that on TV too. These guys continue to fight, the character of the group continues to show through. When they’re in it, they’re fighting until the end.”
State police said Garrett was the only one in his vehicle who suffered critical injuries. The other four occupants, three men, ages 21, 22 and 25, and a 25-year-old woman, all from Chicago, were treated at an area hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a news release from April. Two of them suffered injuries directly from the shooting, state police told the Tribune at the time.
In winning his first major, Medvedev played brilliantly, strategically, changing angles and speeds while out-baselining the ninja master at his own game. Medvedev is a hardcourt wizard. He stands so far behind the baseline it’s hard to figure how he can cover the court, vertically. Yet, somehow, he does. His nerves wobbled only a bit, near the end, when he struck double faults on championship points. Medvedev composed himself, though, finished the job. He dropped to the ground awkwardly on his side, with typical quirkiness, and stuck out his tongue in disbelief at the breakthrough upset.
