Weather officials said a windy Wednesday was in store for the Chicago area and issued a wind advisory for portions of central, east central, north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana.
Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph were expected with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph. But strong to severe thunderstorms may bring gusts up to 60 mph.
Officials warned tree limbs could be blown down and power outages could occur.
Earlier Wednesday a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 7:30 a.m. after a storm was located over Buffalo Grove moving east at 60 mph.
Portions of north central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana were under a significant thunderstorm risk Wednesday morning through the afternoon. Large hail up to golf ball size, damaging winds up to 70 mph and flooding were possible, officials said.
A few tornadoes in the region also were a possibility.
Current conditions at Midway Airport are overcast at 71 degrees, and at O’Hare International Airport light rain at 70 degrees.
