Dosunmu, 21, a Chicago native who starred at Morgan Park, led the Illini to the Big Ten Tournament title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament last season. He was a consensus first-team All-American and won the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard.
Doyle, who grew up in the central Illinois town of Boody, played 15-a-side rugby at Eastern before being introduced to the sevens at Chicago North Shore club during her senior year in college. Though she has played center for most of her career with the national team, she switched to fly-half to take advantage of her passing ability.
Cunningham attended the draft wearing a dark suit, shirt and tie with sparkles on his collars and cuffs. When the pick was announced, Cunningham kissed 2-year-old daughter Riley, sitting on his lap, then hugged family members and took the stage alongside NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to don a blue Pistons hat.
According to two people with knowledge of the deal, the Lakers are trading Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell to Washington for Westbrook, who is a Los Angeles native and helped lead UCLA to a pair of Final Four appearances. The Lakers have the 22nd pick in Thursday’s draft.
“This will always be home for me,” Rizzo said. “My best friend in the game, Jon Lester, did the same thing, and said he has two special places in his heart. For these next three months it’s going to be fun to be back in a race. Seeing the Yankees pull the trigger like this, get Gallo and me now, obviously. That’s what they do, and it’s very exciting.”
“It’s been awesome,” Tepera said of his time with the Cubs. “A good group of guys, just talking to (manager David Ross), it was about a year ago, he sent me down opening day. I told him straight up Ill be back and I’m gonna be your set-up guy. Enjoyed my time here it was awesome. Looking forward to the next adventure.”
“We’ve got other guys on the roster — (Riley) Ridley and (Javon) Wims,” Nagy said. “I thought Ridley put together great OTAs. Was excited to see him do that. And now, a lot of these guys, when you get to this wide receiver position, right, this is where a lot of these guys that fourth, fifth, sixth guy, they have to shine on special teams. That’s going to be my challenge and coach (Chris) Tabor’s challenge to these guys is that fifth spot is going to be real with special teams.”
But two of those, Rizzo and Bryant, were out of the starting lineup, one day before the trade deadline. Ross said the day off was “earmarked” for Rizzo, who hadn’t had a break since the All-Star break. Ross decided to also rest Bryant, based on the “length of the game” Wednesday and “issues with his legs.”
“I haven’t heard that it’s done, so I’m pretty careful talking about somebody else’s player other than I know the kind of year he’s having. Yesterday, while we waited for a night game, we watched the Cleveland game against St. Louis and he had a good game (going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs).
