Asked about the fact the Cubs have had no positive tests among players in 2020 and ‘21, Hendricks said: “I don’t know what that tells you, to be honest. Obviously we’re still learning more and more about (the spread of COVID-19). The fact that some of the Yankees players had it there, it must have been floating around the clubhouse.
“Is every play going to be the perfect play call? No,” Nagy said. “That’s not going to happen. And there are times where I tell the players, ‘Listen, there’s going to be a bad play call (sometimes). You’ve got to bail the play caller out, right?’ At the same time, hopefully as coaches we can make a good play call and make it like, hey, here comes Cover-2, you know you’re throwing a reverse nod right down the middle. And we hit it. There’s nothing better than that when it happens.”
“These things include uniforms, which were given to him by the teams, different bats, balls and gloves, some of which were used in games and many of which were not, his World Series rings (with the Royals in 2015 and Cubs in 2016) and All-Star Game rings, World Series trophies and the (2016 World Series) MVP Camaro vehicle gifted to him by General Motors,” Ben’s attorney, Helen S. Rogers, writes.
For the more than 60 athletes with Illinois ties, these Olympics will be the one where they set personal records, fell short of their own expectations, made their debut, suffered a controversial disqualification, won a medal after beating cancer, fought for their sport’s survival, missed their families, advocated for mental health issues, helped a teammate achieve a dream and had historic gold medals hung around their necks.
“The 2021 induction class wants to thank those previous inductees who gave long-winded acceptance speeches,” said Manning, who was presented by his father, Archie, himself a College Football Hall of Fame member. “Forcing us to have a whopping six minutes to recap our football careers. I want to give a special thanks to my old rival Ray Lewis for being here tonight. Ray just finished giving his speech that he started in 2018.”
Let’s get this out of the way: The lake can be cold. You snap on a pair of water shoes on a warm summer day and step gingerly into the clear Lake Superior waters of Madeline Island’s Big Bay. Edging ever deeper, though, is a process. You inhale sharply with every step, advancing to your waist, your chest, your shoulders — and finally, full submersion. But once your body adjusts to the shock, the feeling is completely invigorating. Curative. As summer vacation returns with a vengeance, the Midwest’s best beaches will provide a no-frills escape this year. These aren’t the Gulf Stream waters, and this certainly isn’t the Caribbean. But from the Great Lakes to the 10,000 Lakes, the best beaches of the “North Coast” are collectively like our Caribbean. So don’t let the coastal elites tell you that the Midwest has no beaches. They have no idea. Here, we share 12 of our favorites. By Simon Peter Groebner and Kerri Westenberg, Star Tribune Jun 28, 2021
Three batters later, Eloy Jiménez connected for a two-run homer, setting off the White Sox fans among the 39,412 at the ballpark. The Sox didn’t stop there, getting Davies for a third time in the first inning on Andrew Vaughn’s two-run homer. The early five-run lead was all the Sox needed to power them to a 9-3 victory over the Cubs to sweep the three-game City Series. Jiménez finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs against his former organization.
“Coming off of last year and the circumstances we had, it’s a different year than it would be normally anyway,” Hendricks said Sunday. “My body feels really good, but also the spot we’re at as a team, we have opportunities where we can bring a couple guys up and see what we have for the future going forward, so you kind of get to kill two birds with one stone.
“Once they were gone, after two days and we’ve got new faces around here, this is starting to feel more normal, to be honest, because this is our whole life in baseball. Growing up, all the way through high school, college, minor leagues, you’re always jumping team to team and playing with different guys.
