“Got a lot better there the second through the fifth, sixth, but was just trying to find my rhythm, my tempo (in the first),” Keuchel said. “It just seemed I was really sluggish, just felt a little bit different than I usually do. That was the main thing, trying to find that connection point, and thankfully I did.”
“That’s one of those keys, to continue to pitch into the ballgame, get us some more outs, especially in today’s (doubleheader),” manager David Ross said. “It was nice for him to settle in and still give us some outs after that, but things happen quick, especially here (in the majors) sometimes, and he settled in nicely and definitely locked it back in. It was nice to see.”
“Even brought the curveball out a few times,” Giolito said. “But it was more the sequencing. I was able to get swing and miss on the changeup when I would show that elevated heater, or leave it at the top of the zone and get the swing and miss on the slider when I’m working that slider away, away, away, or pop one in or when the fastball’s down, I can use the slider off that.
“Tony was one of the most important and popular figures in the history of the franchise as we near its 100th anniversary,” Hawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz said in a statement. “Four generations of our family — my grandfather Arthur, my father Bill, my son Danny and I — were blessed by his work ethic as a Hall of Fame goalie, but more importantly, by his mere presence and spirit.”
“It gets to be a point in camp where you’re tired of going against each other, battling with one another, and you get a chance to take a break and go against somebody new,” Dalton said. “For us, we’ve been going against our defense the whole time. All right, now you get a few days to see a different defense, see how they’re playing certain things.”
“Sitting out there on the sidelines and watching those guys compete (the last two weeks), it just makes you want to be back out there,” Jackson said. “It gives a sense of urgency like Man, I’ve got to get back. But now we have a different team coming in here. Everybody’s together. It’s us against them. No more blue against white. It’s Chicago Bears against Miami Dolphins in a little friendly competition.”
The quandary for Pochettino would be how to use Angel Di Maria, whose goal sealed the Copa America title last month, and another Argentine attacker — Mauro Icardi. It’s a tactical challenge most coaches would relish, with a 4-2-3-1 or 3-5-2 also in the mix to accommodate the attacking talents available.
“Going through this myself four years ago, the basketball is different,” said Bulls assistant and Summer League coach Damian Cotter, who is Australian. “I feel like Marko steadily improved every time he stepped on the floor. He ran the floor well (Monday). He’s got to be a little bit better with his communication, but that’s going to take time.
Paul Tanzillo of the DuPage Officials Association said some sideline critics don’t understand the rules, which differ between high school, college and the pros. In high school football, he said, intentional grounding is called even if the quarterback is outside the pocket, and holding penalties are enforced 10 yards from the spot of the foul, not the line of scrimmage.
The Brewers weren’t expected to make a splash in 2021, but they arrived at Wrigley with a 66-46 record, a five-game division lead and three of the top starting pitchers in the National League in Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta, who was scheduled to face the Cubs on Monday before the game was postponed by weather. The teams will play a split doubleheader Tuesday at 1:20 and 7:05 p.m.
