“When you draft shortstops or up-the-middle-type players, you are looking for certain qualities,” Sox assistant general manager/player development Chris Getz said Tuesday. “I feel like Colson has that. He kind of fits both sides because of his age, No. 1, and No. 2 his cap number is not super high because he didn’t have (arbitration) rights this season or next season.
“We do have a pitching plan and then there’s a vision, but as a part of that vision, we have to break down each pitcher individually,” Banner said. “For some players, they go into a velocity bucket. For others, they go into a command bucket. For others, they go into a shape bucket, whatever it may be, that is going to be the key for them to improve enough to move to the next level.
But regardless of his rest schedule, it’s clear the Bulls need to make sure LaVine feels he doesn’t need to do too much on the court to finish the regular season. In previous seasons, LaVine put his body on the line every night in an attempt to scrape out wins. Now he doesn’t have to do as much with help from DeRozan and Vučević.
Defensive quality control assistant Ronell Williams is the only member of Nagy’s staff to remain with the Bears under Eberflus. Coaches who have not landed work for 2022, to my knowledge, include Nagy, offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, wide receivers coach Mike Furrey, tight ends coach Clancy Barone, assistant special teams coach Brian Ginn, strength coach Jason Loscalzo, offensive quality control/quarterbacks coach Mike Snyder, assistant defensive line coach Shane Toub and offensive assistants Tom Herman and Henry Burris.
“He’s cleared to go, but I’m not sure if he’s 100% ready,” King said. “It’s tough. It’s like you train all summer and you feel great going into training camp and it’s that first practice where you have battle drills and you’re like: ‘Why did I even train? I’m exhausted, I’m out of shape.’
Getz also listed four right-handers who spent time last season at Class A Kannapolis — 2021 third-round pick Sean Burke (0-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 20 strikeouts in five starts), 2020 second-round pick Jared Kelley (0-5, 6.86 ERA, 25 strikeouts in 10 starts) and 2019 second- and third-round picks Matt Thompson (2-8, 5.90 ERA, 77 strikeouts in 19 starts) and Andrew Dalquist (3-9, 4.99 ERA, 79 strikeouts in 23 starts) — as young pitchers to keep an eye on.
Most damaging about Mickelson’s remarks to author and golf writer Alan Shipnuck was referring to the Saudis who are financing a proposed breakaway league as “scary mother (expletive)s.” He also told Shipnuck, who is writing a biography on Mickelson due out in May, that it was worth getting in bed with the Saudis, despite their history of human rights abuses, if it meant a chance to change the PGA Tour.
