Illinois has nine operating retail sportsbooks, seven of which offer online sports betting. FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM, the three largest online sportsbooks in the U.S., are all partnered with downstate casinos. The amended law opened up the floodgates for the sportsbooks to woo Chicago-area customers, precipitating a seemingly nonstop blitz of TV ads throughout the month.

I had an interesting conversation with a general manager several years ago and he made an excellent point. Let’s say, for the sake of this conversation, the Bears are on the clock and they have a pressing need at wide receiver and offensive line but they draft a defensive end. That would not fill either of the greatest needs on the roster. But the GM made the point that two years down the road, no one is going to be focused on whether at the time of the draft the Bears filled one of the two biggest needs. At that point, the question would be did the Bears select a player that has been able to help them? If the defensive end is a player moving forward, it will be viewed as a good pick. If a wide receiver is drafted and he fizzles out in the first two years, it will be a poor pick.
“We’ve been really aggressive moving our infielders around early in the season, and so far we’ve been good,” said Green, who also serves as the Cubs infield coach. “But we’ve also been a little bit lucky. Stuff’s been going right at us and when it hasn’t, Nico makes plays like he did today.

“Anderson was a little behind due to a visa issue so he didn’t quite get the full spring,” Hahn said. “He came in not too dissimilar from Bennett Sousa as one of our young lefties we were excited to see in camp. Anderson’s experience in spring was a little uneven because of his late arrival perhaps. But the stuff is there, plus fastball, slider, real nice mix to keep guys off balance and dominate an AB.
