With just 15 days left in meteorological spring, which spans from March 1 to May 31, spring 2021 is the driest on record since records started being kept in 1871, according to the weather service. Since the start of March, Chicago has only received 2.32 inches of rain, more than 6 inches below normal. Water levels in Lake Michigan and Lake Huron have dropped 15 inches in the past 12 months, according to the weather service.

Video of the avian rescue near Michigan Avenue and Jackson Boulevard was posted to Twitter about 5 p.m. Sunday by a man who asked reporters to refer to him by his social media handle, “ChiTownCheese.” The video shows the bird on a ledge on the second floor of the Motorola Building, formerly the Railway Exchange Building, 224 S. Michigan Ave.

Almost 200 alligators call Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary home. The smallest are only a foot or two long but the largest, named Medusa, is 11 feet long and is expected to keep growing. The sanctuary takes in around 20 to 30 new alligators each year. Many of those are pets from people who are unable or unwilling to care for growing gators, but some are captured by animal control officers from around the Midwest and brought to the sanctuary.
