Batavia police responded to the crash shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Kirk Road after a vehicle flipped over onto its roof, killing two occupants inside the car, police officials said in a news release. Police are withholding the identification of the two who died until next of kin are notified.
“The need among the community is so great. Soaring gas prices have caused a hardship for too many of our citizens,” Wilson, a former mayoral, senate and presidential candidate, said in a written statement last week announcing a second giveaway. Wilson said the 49 participating gas stations have agreed to lower their prices so that recipients may get more gas.

CPS “should have had an actual discussion with the community and with the teachers and sorted out what the possibilities were instead of giving us this kind of false choice between starting early and starting really early,” Tobin said. “There could have been other ways to configure it, but CPS didn’t really invite that kind of conversation.”
“The majority of parents will just go with the message that they’re being told and right now the message from the district, the state, the White House is ease up and be mask optional, even though many medical professionals see the next wave coming,” O’Brien said. “I’m hoping we’ll make it to summer and be OK. But, I really don’t know.”
“Some of the most dramatic changes are happening in the winter,” said project organizer Ted Ozersky, an associate professor at the University of Minnesota at Duluth. “If we don’t understand how the Great Lakes work for a big chunk of the year, I think we’re not in a good position to predict how they will change.”
So far, the two sides have bickered more than negotiated. Last fall, Northwest Side Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, 35th, accused Rules Committee Chair Ald. Michelle Harris, 8th, of “gaslighting” Latinos when she said they weren’t negotiating in good faith, while earlier this year Harris said some Latino aldermen were “getting hoodwinked” by their colleagues who are convincing them they can win a citywide ballot referendum on the maps.
Kofi Cockburn scored 19 points in what might have been his final game for Illinois, but he was the only Illini player in double figures. Andre Curbelo, who went scoreless, was benched with six minutes left in the first half and never returned. Alfonso Plummer and Trent Frazier were a combined 4-for-17.
Prosecutors alleged several bits of evidence — cellphone location hits, social media data, his DNA on one of the cords, the bullet casing that could have been fired from a gun frame later found in a car Simmons used linked him, while defense lawyer Michael Campbell said the case was circumstantial at best and the evidence did not add up.
