“What happens is people come into smash-and-grabs, they scare the employees, they scare the folks who are there patronizing the stores and they do damage as well. People fear for their lives at that point,” Sen. Suzy Glowiak Hilton, a Western Springs Democrat sponsoring the bill, said last week at a Springfield news conference. “And so, I don’t want my constituents or those in (the rest of) Illinois to feel like they can’t go to Oakbrook (Center), that I represent, to do their shopping.”

Pasin said in a YouTube video posted earlier this week that after police closed the investigation, she emailed the school in December detailing the allegations. While she got a response within a few days, she said she was unhappy with the lawyer the school chose to investigate. She later agreed to an interview, but the school “ghosted” her for two months until last week, she said. At that point she was no longer willing to sit for an interview, and she posted the video as an “absolute last resort,” she said.

Prosecutors said on the morning of April 26, 2018, Carlos Nunez was in a “jealous rage” at his wife Jovita, 55, believing she was unfaithful to him. While she slept in an upstairs bedroom, he retrieved a hammer from the garage and struck his wife in the head multiple times, officials said.
