The pandemic has fueled a major shift to online grocery shopping, with sales at retailers nationwide growing by 64% in 2020, and another 12.3% last year, to more than $122 billion, according to research firm eMarketer. Online grocery sales are projected to double by 2025 to nearly $244 billion, or about 18% of the $1.45 trillion U.S. retail grocery market.
The mandate requires submission of proof of vaccination for individuals 5 years of age or older to enter indoor “covered locations” such as restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gyms, fitness centers, movie theaters, concert venues, sports arenas, bowling alleys, etc. However, the order expressly excludes from the definition of “covered locations” all locations in residential or office buildings, the use of which is limited to owners, residents or tenants of that building.
The United Auto Workers, which encourages workers to get vaccinated, said the decision won’t change safety protocols such as face masks, temperature checks and distancing when possible for more than 150,000 union members at General Motors, Ford and Stellantis factories.
Establishments accused of violating the order can be issued two citations, for violating both BACP and Chicago Department of Public Health requirements. Under city code, each violation can lead to a fine between $100 and $10,000. Miguel Campos, BACP’s supervisor of business compliance investigations, has said businesses can also face closure of one day, or potentially longer “for egregious situations.”
“Two key questions for the Select Committee are how the spread of misinformation and violent extremism contributed to the violent attack on our democracy, and what steps — if any — social media companies took to prevent their platforms from being breeding grounds for radicalizing people to violence,” Thompson, D-Miss., said in the letter.

“I used to be a paperboy for the Chicago Daily News, and I remember delivering newspapers here, thinking, my gosh, someday it would sure be nice to have a house like this. Initially, it was out of my price range, but it came down and we negotiated, and I ended up getting it,” he said. “I’ve made a couple of minor changes. I did some tile work in the entryway, and in one of the rooms I’m replacing the carpeting, but I want to save the ambience that it holds. It’s a landmark, and I want to keep it that way. I don’t want to change anything that would take away from it.”
