The Associated Press has declared incumbent Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi the winner of Illinois’ 8th Congressional District, beating Republican challenger Chris Dargis.
Krishnamoorthi, of Schaumburg, is a former deputy state treasurer who first ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2012 but lost to Tammy Duckworth in the Democratic primary. When Duckworth successfully ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2016, Krishnamoorthi succeeded her in the 8th Congressional District.

Born in New Delhi, he immigrated to the U.S. with his parents and was raised in Peoria.
During his time in Congress, Krishnamoorthi has pushed for ethics reforms and tried to regulate vaping.

The 8th District now stretches through the northwest suburbs from Des Plaines west through Schaumburg and Streamwood to the edge of Huntley. President Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in the district in 2020, 56.8% to 41.4%, according to a Daily Kos analysis.
Dargis is a retired Navy officer who worked as an executive in retail. He campaigned on calls for energy independence, reducing inflation and funding law enforcement to lower crime.
