A Batavia High School employee is under investigation after a video circulated on social media reportedly showing the worker putting a student in a headlock.

A Batavia School District 101 spokesperson said the employee, a campus monitor, was responding to an incident of “assault and battery involving students” on Friday in the Batavia High School cafeteria. Police officers could not provide more details on what the video showed, citing an active investigation.

“There are some videos being circulated showing a portion of the incident, and the videos have gained quite a bit of attention,” Holly Deitchman, District 101′s communications manager, said in a statement. “We can all agree that the video clip is a cause for concern.”

Batavia police have not identified the man in the video, but said he works as a campus monitor. The female student is a sophomore. Police said they are actively investigating the incident, talking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance videos, and currently no charges have been filed.

“The district cannot release any additional information publicly, including the full video, to maintain confidentiality,” Deitchman said. “Right now, our priorities are supporting those impacted, completing a thorough investigation into the incident, and determining appropriate responses based on the investigation findings.”

School officials said the district is working closely with all of the parties involved as part of its investigation.
