NASCAR Chicago Street Race 2023: Timeline of road closures

The city of Chicago and NASCAR officials shared Monday a traffic plan for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, which takes place July 1-2 near the lakefront.

The televised Cup Series event will feature a 12-turn, 2.2-mile course, with top NASCAR drivers weaving through the park on closed-off streets lined with temporary fences, grandstands and what promoters hope will be thousands of fans.

Parking restrictions:

  • Columbus Drive between Jackson and Balbo drives.

  • Ida B. Wells Drive closes east of Michigan Avenue to allow for construction of main viewing areas.

  • Temporary road closures will allow for track wall installation.

  • Balbo Drive from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

  • Intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Columbus Drive: Fully reopened after track wall removal.

  • Columbus Drive between Balbo Drive and Jackson Boulevard: Remaining track wall removed. Curb lane on northbound Columbus Drive reopened.

  • Priority streets for reopening are DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
  • Southbound Columbus Drive between Jackson Boulevard and Balbo Drive: Stripped parking designation and President’s Paddock Club removed. Park area and sidewalk along west side of Columbus Drive vacated.
  • Activity is expected to conclude by July 15.
