Tingler said Darvish being the quickest to 1,500 strikeouts “is unbelievably impressive. Obviously you have to be able to do that in a short period of time. For him to do everything with those strikeouts over the years, he’s got a ton of weapons. The way he spins the ball, the way he manipulates the ball, being able to get swing and miss, he’s tremendous at it.”

After that, however, things get considerably more difficult with matches against the Philadelphia Union (4-2-3, 15 points), Atlanta United (2-1-5, 11 points) and Orlando City SC (4-1-3, 15 points). Philadelphia, who already have won at Soldier Field this season, and Orlando were playoff teams in 2020, and the Union won the Supporters’ Shield last season for having the best regular-season record.

The radiothon will start with Parkins and Acho working alongside Dan Bernstein at 9 a.m. (Bernstein’s regular co-host, Leila Rahimi, has previously scheduled time off). Then Parkins will keep going with Laurence Holmes at noon, regular co-host Matt Spiegel at 2 p.m., Mark Grote at 6 p.m., Les Grobstein overnight and wrap up with the morning team of David Haugh and Mike Mulligan at 5 a.m.

“Nothing (is) really a big difference, you know, just different type of schemes, play-calling wise,” Jackson said. “You know coach Vic (and Pagano), they’re both great coaches, let me start with that. They have a different approach to the game, coach Vic was more of a disguise point, you know have me roaming free, being free, things like that. Coach Chuck would have me try and do things like that early in the year as well and you know it’s just different with schemes, that’s about it.”

Báez’s hustle was on display during each of his two at-bats, twice busting it down the first-base line in potential double-play situations. Evidently, however, Ross felt forgetting the number of outs while on base warranted taking him out of the game. Even so, Ross described having a pit in his stomach having to make the move and that the feeling remained the rest of the night.

Five people were injured, one of them critically, 16 homes were uninhabitable, at least 10 people have been displaced and at least 125 damage reports have been filed as the result of a “considerable” tornado that tore through Naperville late Sunday, officials said. And that’s in just one of three southwest suburban communities hit by what meteorologists suspect was at least an EF-2 tornado — a ranking on the Enhanced Fujita scale — which goes from zero to five. An EF-2, should it be confirmed later Monday, would mean the tornado had wind speeds of 111 to 135 mph.Matt Friedlein, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said there’s a chance the tornado — forecasters think it was a single funnel cloud that touched down multiple times in Naperville, Woodridge and Darien, in that order — may even be classified as an EF-3 once a team of meteorologists goes into the field to investigate its path and the damage it caused. An EF-3 is defined as a tornado with wind speeds of 136 to 165 mph.“We suspect it was one tornado. We don’t know that for certain, but based on the nature of the information and what we know about the character of this event, that’s what we’re leaning toward,” Friedlein said around 7:30 a.m.

Alzolay’s 0.6 Wins Above Replacement is best among Cubs starting pitchers despite throwing the fourth-fewest innings among the staff. Amid the rotation’s collective inconsistencies, the Cubs need Alzolay to play a key role if they want to get to the postseason. Inevitably, the young starter will have own ups and downs, but when Alozlay is rolling, he keeps the Cubs in games and is tough to hit.
