The scene couldn’t have been any further from the mirthless, empty arena where the Lightning won the Cup last September in a quarantined bubble across the continent in Edmonton, Alberta. They joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as the only back-to-back Cup winners in the salary-cap era, but even more impressively they did it amid virus protocols with the shortest span between championships in the long history of the NHL.

“He’s definitely a leader out there,” outfielder Adam Engel said. “He was one of the guys in the outfield I was able to bounce ideas off of. He points out things that I hadn’t heard before in the outfield I thought were really, really good ideas. He’s been a part of the team since spring training, and losing a guy like that is just tough.”
“I always had the dream, but before (2012), women couldn’t dream of going to the Olympics,” Graham said. “I always wanted to go to the top and be a world champion, but when I saw those Olympics, I saw that must be a pretty great feeling. I just knew I wanted to do it, too.”

He scored eight straight Phoenix points later in the quarter, hitting a 3-pointer, dancing around Bobby Portis for a layup and hitting another 3. He then fired a pass to Ayton, who was fouled and made both free throws to make it 88-68 with 2:20 left.
“We don’t think mechanically it’s anything that he needs to work on,” Ross said over the weekend. “He needs to get in the zone a little bit more. He feels good, he just needs to get to expecting good outcomes. When things aren’t going well, even with a guy with his track record, you can get down on yourself. Things can start working a little quick.”
Sox outfielders Brian Goodwin and Adam Eaton couldn’t locate a ball hit by Nelson Cruz in the sixth and it fell for a single, giving the Twins runners on first and second with one out. Alex Kirilloff drove in a run with a single, with Cruz advancing to third.
“Right now we’re just thin, and he was the guy that’s here,” Ross said. “Having some length on the back side of a game, we’ll kind of assess as the All-Star break approaches. Things changed really fast from plans last night. So he’s in the bullpen as of right now. If we need some length, we have him down there. And if it goes too long, we’ll try to make a plan for him at that point.”
