The team is scheduled to hold workouts Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at AT&T Stadium before taking a break heading into the regular season, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the club wasn’t discussing its plans publicly. The Saints are supposed to open at home Sept. 12 against the Green Bay Packers.
Patrick Wisdom’s spur-of-the-moment mustache won’t be going away for now. Wisdom sported the new look when he arrived at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday and then clobbered two home runs that night on his 30th birthday. “I thought it was good for them,” Nagy said. “That’s why we wanted to do that, to be able to let them get out there. Not even so much schematically as it was just them working together, them being in the huddle, them knowing what it’s like together sitting on the bench with (line coach) Juan (Castillo) looking at the video. That’s what it’s all about. Now, we’ve got time to put it all together, get into where we’re at and they get to see themselves on tape. I thought it was very important, regardless of results of what really happened, I thought it was important to get that cohesion of them being together.”
Fields has a knack for these kinds of things, extending plays that are otherwise disrupted and using his instincts and athletic gifts to create magic. Thus as Fields rolled toward the sideline with visions of creating a big play, Bears coach Matt Nagy had little issue with him firing a pass into a congested section of the end zone.
“It’s unbelievable — obviously in other spots, he wasn’t given the most chances, and in a situation like this getting everyday playing time, it’s been special to watch,” Cubs pitcher Alec Mills said after throwing 8⅓ scoreless innings in Saturday’s win. “I mean, obviously what he did tonight at the plate, but he made four or five really, really good defensive plays starting at third base. So he can kind of do it all, and it’s a lot of fun to watch when he’s clicking.”
