Illinois (2-1) was clinging to a 66-65 lead when Kolek stole the ball from Trent Frazier at midcourt, maintained his balance and made a layup despite getting fouled. Kolek missed the free throw, but Kur Kuath stole the ball from Illinois guard Andre Curbelo with three seconds left to thwart the Illini.
Moskos posted a statement on Twitter that acknowledged those who helped him along the way: “To all the former players, coaches, personnel that have had an impact on my life and my career, I truly mean it when I say I can’t thank you enough. All of you helped shape the coach that I have become. I will be forever grateful to each and every one of you.”
“I was in the corner and I thought I just jammed my wrist, so I finished practice, went home, was icing it,” Jones said. “The next day, came in and showed the trainers what was going on. They tried to tape it and they said if my tendon had stayed in place, I’d be OK.
“When you start getting guys back, it provides some depth,” Nagy said. “And this is a physical game. … So for us now with Teven, it’s letting him get back into practice and see what feels good and what feels right. But he does look good. I feel like strength-wise, without pads on, he looks pretty good.”
In that sense, the book largely succeeds, though it would have been nice to go more behind the scenes during each championship season. Pippen’s recaps of playoff series read more like expansive box scores, lacking any new insights or stories that fans don’t already know. And in the end, that’s who will read this book — diehard Bulls fans who want to relive their team’s glory years.
“As far as us playing basketball the way we want to play and showing up and being present and trying to win every moment, that would be great for us,” Caruso said of the possibility of an L.A. sweep. “We’re coming off, not a really poor performance, but getting beat like we did in Golden State, coming back and proving we’re a better team than that, we’re resilient.
“No one wanted Jimmy to succeed more than I when I hired him in 2019, but ultimately, this change is necessary for a variety of reasons, both on the field and off,” Cohen said in a statement. “I am grateful for Jimmy’s service to Washington, and we wish him the very best of luck moving forward.”
The Lions, helped greatly by a pair of defensive penalties, moved into position for a 48-yard field-goal attempt. But Ryan Santoso, filling in for the injured Austin Seibert, saw his kick flutter well short into the open end of the stadium. Santoso also missed an extra point after Godwin Igwebuike’s 42-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

“Honestly, not really,” he said. “I don’t know if there’s anything more to it than we’ve got really good guys on the team, really unselfish guys, guys willing to put in the work and work for their teammates and work to win. Everybody gets along really well. I don’t think there’s anyone you’re not happy to see each day showing up to work. When you got guys like that, it makes playing basketball really easy.”
