The Detroit Red Wings were added to the list of teams told to shut down operations, joining the Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators and Boston Bruins. The Red Wings’ home game against the Avalanche on Monday previously had been postponed, and the Red Wings’ trip to Minnesota for Thursday’s game against the Wild was called off.
Two snaps later, cornerback Amani Oruwariye fully extended to pick off a pass Murray threw to the outside toward A.J. Green, who didn’t come back to the ball, and Oruwariye returned it 50 yards. On the next play, Goff threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jason Cabinda to put the Lions ahead 24-3.
Brooklyn’s list of players in protocols includes Kevin Durant, James Harden and — even though he’s still not yet able to play — Kyrie Irving, who has sat out all season for not complying with New York City’s vaccine mandate. The team reversed course Friday and said Irving would be welcomed back “for games and practices in which he is eligible to participate,” meaning road games except for those in San Francisco, which also mandates vaccines.
“(Tabor) is like, ‘It’s OK.’ And I’m like, ‘Naw, coach, I’m ticked off. This is the most I’ve been mad in a long time because I left a lot of yards out there on kickoff return and punt return,’ ” Grant said. “He was trying to tell me to calm down, and I was like, ‘I’ll calm down once I get into the game.’ ”

Three minutes into the game Saturday, Connolly leveled Kero near the wall close to the blue line, almost the same spot that Khaira was hit, as Kero was attempting to leave the defensive zone. Kero didn’t appear to be looking up when Connolly checked him. In a moment similar to Khaira’s, Kero lay still on the ice before he was taken off on a stretcher.

The Bulls are far from returned to normal — Matt Thomas remains in protocols despite being listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game, and Zach LaVine, Ayo Dosunmu, Troy Brown Jr. and Alize Johnson are expected to remain sidelined through Christmas, according to coach Billy Donovan. But with no new cases among players or coaches, the Bulls are hopeful they’ve escaped the widest team outbreak in the NBA so far this season.
“Medical information strongly indicates that this variant is significantly more contagious but possibly less severe than prior variants, particularly for people who are fully vaccinated and have received a booster shot,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in another memo sent to clubs. “Our experience with the omicron variant is fully consistent with this expectation – while more players and staff are testing positive, roughly two- thirds of those individuals are asymptomatic, most of the remaining individuals have only mild symptoms, and the virus appears to clear positive individuals more rapidly than was true with the delta or earlier variants. In many respects, omicron appears to be a very different illness from the one that we first confronted in the spring of 2020.”
