“The old (Blackhawks) regime never had any interest in me, so when there was a change, I think it’s pretty cool that they thought I fit the bill for this role,” he said. “That’s what I’ve been working my whole life towards: I’m 28, this is my eighth-year pro, I’ve had stints and never been able to kind of stick, so I’m really trying to find a home here.”

The 2018 Bears defense feels like a long way off. At least Robert Quinn has had a fun season, Smith has continued to play well and Johnson provides a shred of hope for the future. Otherwise, the defense’s situation would feel very dark.
Some 33 players, including 10 Bulls, were in the league’s health and safety protocols Wednesday. And because of the recent surge, some teams are considering changing their attendance protocols. On Wednesday the Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and Raptors announced they would limit attendance to 50% capacity again.
The pandemic severely disrupted college sports in 2020, though this year’s football season largely came off without widespread scheduling problems. The basketball season that began in early November has now seen the number of postponements or outright cancellations grow in the last two weeks, with Tulane idling its program all week.
The president and chief operating officer of Churchill Downs, Bill Mudd, said the company was looking for another site in Illinois where it could hold live racing, but would not specify any potential locations. He noted that the two remaining tracks in the state, Hawthorne and Fairmount, despite plans to open racinos, have not done so in the two years since the law allowed it.

“I talked to some of the guys this morning (and said), ‘You’ve got to understand that this is the world we live in right now,’” Nagy said. “These are the rules we’ve got to play by, and everybody has to know that at any given moment you’ve got to be ready because it’s the next-man-up mentality, not just for players but for coaches too. In these type of moments what you’ve got to do is try to really stay positive, take care of your body, stay positive, stay together and realize that we’re not the only ones right now in that (situation).”

Broadcasters Stacey King and Bill Wennington also entered protocols amid the outbreak, and center Nikola Vučević previously spent 11 days in isolation after testing positive Nov. 11.
