The Jayhawks applied pressure the moment Villanova inbounded the ball. They unleashed traps in half-court, something they rarely did in the regular season. And they twice picked the pocket of Gillespie, the two-time Big East player of the year, leading to easy baskets and a 10-0 lead before some of the 70,000-plus fans had even found their seats.
“Growing up I didn’t play outfield and at Notre Dame, they asked me if I could play a couple games in the outfield, and (I) never came back to the infield,” Pollock said. “(Defense has) always a big part of my game. Moving from center field to a corner spot I thought it was going to be a breeze. (It) took a little time, (but I) feel like I’m in a good spot now, feel like I understand it. It is a little different but I feel like I know the nuances of the corner spots.
“I’m letting my body tell me how it goes, and yes, opening day is coming up real quick,” Givens told the Tribune before his outing. “But we’re just going to try to maintain and, like you do in baseball, you make adjustments. So just make an adjustment to the time frame and getting ready for opening day.”

“He continues to evolve as a pitcher,” Ross said. “The steadiness of who he is in his routine, that’s just something that you learn to love and you can rely on. Reliability, consistency, the things that make up major-league players that are playing this game for a long time, Kyle has a lot of those attributes.”
DePaul has an informal tradition that if a player receives an award, she has to buy something for the entire team. Over the course of the season, Morrow racked up 13 Big East freshman of the week nods, five USBWA National Freshman of Week honors and was on the ballot for the John R. Wooden and Naismith player of the year awards.
“You live for those moments, honestly,” DeRozan said. “I get up for those moments. I love them, since I was a kid, just having that imagination, hitting big shots in a dark room. You kind of feed into that when 20,00 fans are out there watching.”
“This is really for everybody — show us your skill set, show us what you can do, and then we’ll fit you into the pieces we need to fit you into,” Eberflus said. “Sure, you’ve got to run basic plays, but we’ve got to be able to see, for example at that position, can you cover tight ends? Can you cover backs out of the backfield? Are you efficient playing half or quarters or playing in the middle of the field? He’s done all those things, but we want to see his skill set now.”

“I said the other day, points are hard to come by in this tournament,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “Today was no different. You’re going to have to win some other way. You just have to tough it out. You have to rebound the ball better, play defense better, get to the loose balls, make the free throws.
