We’ve seen Cubs teams come from nowhere to contend, as they memorably did during playoff seasons in 1984, 1989, 1998 and 2003. For this edition to pull off a surprise, it needs veterans Kyle Hendricks, Jason Heyward and Ian Happ to have rebound seasons after poor showings in 2021; Stroman and Suzuki to be the game-changers the Cubs are betting on; Frank Schwindel and Patrick Wisdom to pick up where they left off; and young players such as Justin Steele, Keegan Thompson, Nick Madrigal, Clint Frazier and Nico Hoerner to take big steps forward.
Through a land trust, the Collitons paid $1.63 million in 2019 for the 11-room house in Lakeview, which was built in 2008. Located on a cul-de-sac, the house has 4-1/2 bathrooms, three gas fireplaces, hardwood floors, a third-floor office and media room, a playroom on the lower level, and an attached and heated, two-car garage. At the recently renamed Vizzy View Bar, look out for Blue Moon brats, simmered in Blue Moon beer and served with a burnt orange mustard and caramelized onions.

In a move that befits a team more interested in selling tickets than going for broke, the Cardinals signed 42-year-old slugger Albert Pujols to go with the battery of Adam Wainwright, 40, and Yadier Molina, 39. If they were starting a baseball museum, it would make perfect sense. Otherwise it’s a head-scratcher for a team with plenty of young talent.
“Obviously I absolutely love Chicago, I love this organization, everything they’ve given me, they’ve done for me, the opportunity. I mean, this is my home, I would love to be here. I’d love to be a part of anything. And I see what we have coming. I see these young guys, I see the process and what’s happening.”

There was unwarranted celebration among Bears fans when Leno was released after the draft last year, and it turned out the Bears would have been significantly better off keeping him on a modest contract. Leno didn’t play to his ability in 2020, but he bounced back and had a better season in Washington last year, earning a new contract from the Commanders. You will see a good handful of veterans cut loose after the draft, but more times than not, they’re descending players. It’s unlikely a quality left tackle would be cut, but you can’t rule out the possibility that a decent bridge option becomes available. The Bears could benefit by adding veterans at a couple of positions post-draft. They need help at a bunch of positions, and the list isn’t limited to cornerback, strong safety, wide receiver, guard, strong-side linebacker, return specialist, tight end …
