“(Ayo’s) been preparing himself all year,” Caruso said. “The adversity and unfortunate circumstances of our team propelled him into a larger role earlier than we wanted to throw him into, but it’s been great for him to learn. “I think the big thing’s going to be the mound,” Lynn said. “When it comes to mound time, that’s going to tell us everything we need to know. Anything you do stress-wise on flat ground is not near as much as it is on the mound. So we’ll see, when it comes to that time, how we feel. And then after that, it’s building that pitch count, and that takes a minute.”
“Every decision I make is for the best interest of the player, their health and the ballclub,” Roberts said, “because there’s a lot of people that are cheering for the Dodgers, not only just for today and Clayton to throw a no-hitter, but for the Dodgers to win the World Series. For us to do that, we need him healthy.”
“It’s just trying to find that timing,” Hendricks said. “Nothing’s looking the same, everything’s looking different coming out of your hand. It’s not tracking, it’s not on the right lines. So you’re trying to find it — find your timing, focus on the glove, get the ball down, that kind of thing. But everything was up. Nothing was playing off of each other.”
