At 9:48 a.m., Jones allegedly walked up to the driver’s side door of a car, aimed the rifle at a 30-year-old woman and tried to drag her from the car in the first block of East Randolph Street. He then demanded she get out and give him her valuables, according to police.
“It’s rooted in this respectability politics that says that for Black people to succeed, we have to conform to these really silly stereotypes,” he said, “We need to wear our hair a certain length, walk a certain way and when we speak, don’t speak too loudly. All of this is set up so as not to be perceived as a threat by others.”

“This is truly an effort in collaboration and how it should be done,” South Side Ald. Leslie Hairston, 5th, said of the compromise plan. “Everyone did not get what they wanted, but we got to a point where we could agree with something that would be best for the city of Chicago.”

DeLuna had taken out an order of protection against Rubio more than a week before the stabbing, and Rubio had moved out of the home where authorities later found DeLuna, prosecutor said. He violated the order of protection and went to the home, broke in and stabbed DeLuna multiple times, then fled, prosecutors said.
