The Vautravers Building, which has been in the CTA’s path for over a century, is being moved 30 feet to the west in the direction of North Clark Street. The property’s original owners, who built the house in the 1890s, wouldn’t sell when work to construct the Red Line began, resulting in the construction of “L” tracks that looped around the building.
“Like many people in Chicago, when I first heard of the Smollett case … I was absolutely certain that he was guilty based on the media coverage,” Uche told reporters. “But I can say now categorically, looking at the evidence, hundreds of pages so far, and there are many, many more to look at, so far it’s obvious to us he’s absolutely innocent.”
Israel Suaste-Gonzalez, 50, formerly of Mundelein, pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of criminal sexual assault. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop other counts he faced. He had been scheduled to go on trial that day before Judge Mark Levitt, who is set to sentence Suaste-Gonzalez on Sept. 14.

Blagojevich said that since his release from a federal prison camp in Littleton, Colorado, he’s been keeping busy jogging, doing consulting work and giving paid speeches. He’s found a “surprisingly lucrative” side gig making videos on Cameo, a website where users pay for personalized video messages from celebrities, and has also hosted a weekly podcast called “The Lightning Rod” for WLS-AM radio.
Pritzker less than two weeks ago said that he and his wife, M.K., planned to attend the massive festival, which drew roughly 100,000 concertgoers per day to Chicago’s Grant Park. “I think it’s OK, but again, people need to be aware that we are not past this pandemic. A tractor-trailer hauling 34,000 pounds of silicon rubber rolled over on Interstate 94 East at South Canalport Avenue early Monday and all lanes were shut down as emergency crews worked to get the vehicle and its trapped driver upright, officials said.
