These directives have come at a time when Brown and other CPD leaders have been under pressure from Lightfoot to find ways to combat big increases in city violence. Through May 2, homicides in the city were up 22% over the same period last year, going from 160 to 195, official CPD statistics show. The 195 slayings were also a 35% jump over the last two years. Total shootings through May 2 were also up over the last two years by 58%, the statistics show.
Rep. Robin Kelly of Matteson, who chairs the state’s Democratic Party, issued a statement critical of Bost, LaHood and Miller, saying they “cannot be taken seriously as representatives of the people of Illinois. They faced danger from the angry mob that stormed the Capitol that fateful day and still refuse to seek the truth and protect our democracy.”

Anthony Moore, 22, was charged with multiple felonies, including murder, but pleaded guilty on Wednesday to an amended count of conspiracy to commit murder, according to court records and a spokeswoman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. Prosecutors dropped all other charges as part of the agreement.
Her boyfriend, Mark Jaramillo, 46, was charged last month in the April 16 stabbing death of Rafeal Jose Marcano, 27, of Hobart, who was dating Henry’s daughter. As Marcano laid on the ground fatally injured, Henry and Jaramillo sped off, taking her grandson to school, an affidavit alleges.

In a statement, city Inspector General Joseph Ferguson said the proposed changes to the database “have the effect of fundamentally altering the scope and scale of the public resource which would result from its enactment, and profoundly limit its transparency value.”
A police search, including the use of dogs, ensued. Around 8 a.m., police say they developed information that Storm might be in the Fox River Grove area, and had been spotted along Ski Hill Road. A Fox River Grove officer saw Storm running in the 900 block of the road, officers gave chase and took him into custody.
