University of Chicago leaders, including President Paul Alivisatos, Provost Ka Yee C. Lee, and Assistant Vice President for Safety and Security Eric Heath, will host a safety webinar at 2:30 p.m. Thursday for the campus community, according to a media alert from the school.
The doctor’s attorney, Anthony Klytta, of Des Plaines, told the Tribune in a telephone interview Thursday that the doctor was representing himself in his own bankruptcy case at the time and simply didn’t realize that the court’s Zoom call was technically being treated the same as appearing in person at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse.
“As everyone is aware, the Police Department is under a consent decree which results in significant oversight and scrutiny of virtually every aspect of its policy, programming and operations. The Department itself also has many internal oversight mechanisms in place,” the statement said. “Despite the opinions of any one person, real, tangible, and meaningful reform is happening. That would not be possible without the full commitment and involvement of the senior leadership of the Department.”
Rush, D-Ill., who represents part of Dixmoor and the surrounding area, sent a letter Wednesday night to EPA Administrator Michael Regan asking him to work with Illinois to rectify problems outlined in a Nov. 8 Chicago Tribune story that highlighted how crumbling infrastructure and political disagreements led to the Dixmoor crisis, as well as in other news accounts over the years that have drawn attention to inadequate water supply in Chicago’s Southland.
Underwood, 35, of Naperville, who represents the state’s west and northwest suburban and exurban 14th Congressional District, will recover in Illinois “over the coming weeks” following surgery at the University of Chicago Medical Center, her office said.
It will be up to the jury to decide whether Rittenhouse believed his life was in danger that night and, if so, whether that belief was reasonable. Another 5,044 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases were reported by state health officials Wednesday, the most in a single day since Sept. 10. Over the past week, the state has averaged 3,122 cases per day, a 41% increase from the previous week and the highest level since late September, when the late-summer surge driven by the highly contagious delta variant was subsiding.
