You should reach out to the person safely, the Canadian Women’s Foundation says — and that doesn’t necessarily mean calling authorities. Reaching out safely could mean calling the person and asking questions that can be answered with “yes” or “no,” to reduce the risk to them if someone is listening to their conversations. Or you may want to contact them over text, email or a messaging app, asking broad questions in case their devices are being monitored.

Prosecutors said numerous dogs in Mercado’s care had been mistreated, suffering puncture wounds, lacerations, abrasions, weight loss, muscle wasting and dehydration. They added that kennel runs were unsanitary, that dogs were kept in cages that were too small and stacked upon each other, and that one dog was tethered to a bar in a bathtub.

Sun Ng, 71, who came to the U.S. from Hong Kong to celebrate his granddaughter’s first birthday, contracted a case of COVID-19 so severe that in mid-October he ended up on a ventilator at Edward Hospital in Naperville, according to a complaint filed by his daughter, Man Kwan Ng.

The defense disputed this claim by calling Nick Smith, who used to work at the car lot and told Rittenhouse, a friend of a friend, about plans to guard the property. According to a federal complaint, agents saw the private plane, a Bombardier CL-600, land at Gary/Chicago International Airport in Indiana Nov. 3. As first reported by the crime blog CWB Chicago, the agents watched as Vazquez-Gamez and others helped an airport employee unload suitcases from the plane. The suitcases appeared to be “significantly weighed down,” the complaint contends.
