On Nov. 9, at about 1:50 p.m., Zheng was walking home from campus when he was approached by Spann, according to Deputy Chief Rahman Muhammad, who addressed reporters Friday night at police headquarters. Spann announced a robbery and shot Zheng once in the torso before taking his electronics, according to Muhammad.
After the 1980 remap, Carroll served in the 1st Senate District, and after the 1990 remap, he served in the 8th Senate District. He eventually ascended to be assistant minority leader in the Senate. Among the laws he authored and successfully shepherded through the legislature were the Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan Act, enacted in 1987, a law providing pharmaceutical assistance for seniors, and the state’s Human Rights Act, which took effect in 1980 and barred age discrimination in the workplace.
Construction workers working in the Oxbow Landing business park nearby found what they thought was a body floating in the pond, located in an interchange cloverleaf, about noon Thursday, Fifield said during a news conference Thursday. They called E-911, and Hammond firefighters were first on scene, he said. Rescuers retrieved the body.
“We continue to be in close contact with our partners at the local level to ensure the state provides support and resources to help keep the Kenosha community and greater area safe,” Gov. Tony Evers said in the statement. “The Kenosha community has been strong, resilient, and has come together through incredibly difficult times these past two years, and that healing is still ongoing. I urge folks who are otherwise not from the area to please respect the community by reconsidering any plans to travel there and encourage those who might choose to assemble and exercise their First Amendment rights to do so safely and peacefully.”
“Throughout this reporting period, the (independent monitor) repeatedly requested the city and the CPD provide an explanation regarding what transpired with the foot pursuit dashboard data, including what led to the data issues,” the report read. “To date, we still do not have many of these answers, and have only received partial explanations regarding the scope of the data issues and plans ahead.”
Still, school officials say despite Illinois classrooms being fully reopened for in-person learning this fall, the pandemic is far from over, and academic recovery efforts continue to be hampered by students in quarantine, hiring challenges and educators who are already exhausted, just two months into the new school year.
Someone from a neighboring business alerted police to the crime in progress, and the thieves entered an adjoining dealership, police said. As the first officer arrived, the vehicles fled, nearly striking the police car. For safety reasons, the police decided to not give chase.
Also charged were a number of store employees, including Waleed Khrawish, also known as “Wally,” 34, of Melrose Park, who worked at a convenience store in Melrose Park; Alaa Hamdan, 35, of Chicago, who worked at Supermercado El Grande in Addison; Ersely Arita-Mejia, 39, of Arlington Heights, who worked at Star Mini Market in Mt. Prospect; Fortino Hernandez, 38, of Addison, who worked at Supermercado El Grande in Addison; Jehad Khrawish 24, of Chicago, who worked at a convenience store in Melrose Park; and Marisol Zavala, 29, of McHenry, who worked at a convenience store in Elgin.
Around that time, after media reports circulated on the arrest, a woman in her 30s came forward and told police that as a child she had been assaulted over several years by Villanueva, according to prosecutors. The woman previously wanted to disclose the alleged abuse, authorities said, but had been told by a family member that the statute of limitations had expired.
