Once the nation’s largest retailer, Sears has struggled in recent years, declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018 with billions of dollars in debt. Jobless claims rose by 18,000 to a 206,000, still low by historical standards. The four-week average, which smooths out week-to-week volatility, fell by 16,000 to less than 204,000, the lowest level since mid-November 1969, according Department of Labor figures released Thursday.
Potential projects include a new Hudson River tunnel between New York and New Jersey, a new bridge between Washington, D.C., and Virginia, and a replacement for the Baltimore & Potomac tunnel. Outside of the Northeast, rail advocates look forward to the restoration of service connecting New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama, which was knocked offline by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Then, in July 2020, the company received an anonymous tip from an employee claiming that Easterbrook had engaged in a sexual relationship with another employee. After an investigation, McDonald’s confirmed that relationship as well as two other physical, sexual relationships with employees in the year before it fired its top executive. The company said Easterbrook had removed evidence of those relationships from his phone.
Top Republicans in the state Senate, however, have been hesitant on the tax cut question. Much of Indiana’s revenue growth has come from a nearly 12% increase from last year in sales tax collections, which make up about half of state government’s general revenue, and some Senate Republicans warn that no one can reliably predict what will happen with those collections when federal relief spending ends.
The CTA raise follows one the Metra board approved for its CEO in September as that agency grapples with steep drops in ridership. After the raise, Metra CEO Jim Derwinski’s salary was $305,000 for 2021, with another raise to $314,200 next year. Retiring Pace Executive Director Rocky Donahue’s base salary in 2021 was $286,598, according to the RTA, which oversees finances and planning for the three transit agencies. RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden’s 2021 salary was $299,636, according to the agency’s website.
