Automakers are “committed to achieving a cleaner, safer, and smarter future,’’ but EPA’s final rule for greenhouse gas emissions is more aggressive than originally proposed, “requiring a substantial increase in electric vehicle sales, well above the 4% of all light-duty sales today,’’ said John Bozzella, president and CEO of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation. The group represents manufacturers producing nearly 99% of new cars and light trucks sold in the U.S.
“It’s pretty much the same news as it is every two years,” Clay said, referencing the latest report. “Essentially that we’ve made a lot of progress on what they call point source pollution, which is definitely good, but the nonpoint source side for primarily agriculture and stormwater runoff and that kind of thing, we have not made any progress. And in fact it’s getting worse.”
“When I started doing this work, you know, I was very naive, and really felt like, ‘let’s talk to them. Maybe if we tell them our story, they’ll have a heart and they’ll hear,’ ” Ortiz said. “But after almost a decade of doing this work, I mean, you’re not really surprised … because there’s no accountability.
