Schuler, who in addition to serving as president of Abbott Laboratories from 1987-1989, is also a founding investor of Ventana Medical Systems and Stericycle Inc., which sterilizes and recycles medical infectious waste, and his wife, Renate, plan to give all his wealth to the Lake Forest, Illinois-based Schuler Education Foundation that he founded to help send underserved students to selective colleges.
Delta Airlines announced it August that it would charge employees on the company health plan $200 a month if they fail to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The airline also said at that time that it would stop extending pay protection to unvaccinated workers who contract COVID-19 on Sept. 30, and would require unvaccinated workers to be tested weekly beginning Sept. 12, although Delta will cover the cost. Unvaccinated employees also have to wear masks in all indoor company settings.

The ordinance would allow sports gambling facilities within Wrigley Field, Guaranteed Rate Field, Soldier Field, the United Center and Wintrust Arena, or at sites within five blocks of those stadiums. Two off-track betting businesses licensed in Illinois could also opt to set up sportsbooks in Chicago. And one would be allowed in the casino, when it’s built.
The company has recently opened sprawling fulfillment centers in the south suburbs in Markham, Matteson and University Park, and Amazon said that emergency response training, such as for a severe weather event, is part of the indoctrination for employees, reinforced by regular drills.

Deere & Co., which weathered a five-week strike by 10,000 United Auto Workers this fall, exacerbating a backlog of orders for its iconic green tractors and other equipment, was also incentivized to choose Chicago by a different kind of green. In return for creating 150 full-time IT jobs, the company will receive $4.9 million in state tax credits over 10 years through the Illinois Economic Development for a Growing Economy program, better known as EDGE.
