The Labor Department said Thursday that jobless claims increased last week to 419,000, the most in two months, from 368,000 the previous week. The number of first-time applications, which generally tracks layoffs, has fallen steadily since topping 900,000 in early January, according to an Associated Press report.
The organization spent most of the past year whittling down a list of potential names that was at nearly 1,200 just over a month ago. But the process, which the club said included 140 hours of interviews with fans, community leaders, front office personnel and a survey of 40,000 fans.
“And in my head, as a kid, I kind of thought ‘Well, it’s just a show, why does it matter if we look like the adults that will be playing our parents?’ ” Franklin said. “I knew I wouldn’t get that part, because I knew the neighborhood I was in and that most likely there wouldn’t be too many adults auditioning that looked like me.”
Inside, the feeling of sanitized, locked-down quarantine carries over. Fans, who would normally be screaming for their countries and mixing with people from around the world, have been banned, leaving only a carefully screened contingent of journalists, officials, athletes and participants.
Back in 2000, owner Alan V. Mitchell placed the property for sale for $12 million. He took the mansion off the market in 2001 and then relisted it over the next several years for $9.9 million, $9 million and $8.5 million. Not long after that, he cut his asking price to $5.99 million and then to $3.99 million before taking it off the market for a lengthy period. He relisted it several years ago for $2.195 million and then increased his asking price to $2.45 million in July 2020. Now based in Florida, Mitchell then reduced his asking price in March to just under $2 million, and he found a buyer five days later.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be unlike any other because they will take place in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Peralta will be making his first start since the break. He struck out the side in the seventh inning of the All-Star Game on July 13 in Denver, fanning Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García, Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez and Oakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson.

In Illinois, a proposed law would require lab testing and labeling for any product containing CBD, delta-8-THC or other cannabinoids, which are components of cannabis that affect the human body. The CBD Safety Act would have the state Department of Agriculture set the rules for testing, and would let police and regulators inspect any business that handles cannabinoids. Violators would be subject to criminal fines.
In February, the mayor’s commission on monuments flagged statues of Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and William McKinley, as well as a Benjamin Franklin statue, a police memorial tied to the Haymarket Riot and a statue of Leif Ericson at Humboldt Park, as potentially problematic.
