With the Mets down to their final strike, Dominic Smith hit a tying single off Sean Doolittle in the ninth. Brandon Drury opened the bottom of the 10th with an RBI single against Luis Cessa (3-2), driving in automatic runner Kevin Pillar from second base to win it.
The Cubs will be relying on Contreras, Hendricks and Heyward, already considered leaders before the trade-deadline fire sale, to further fill the void left by the departed players. Manager David Ross already has had conversations with Contreras and Heyward about that and plans to talk with Hendricks, too, after his start Saturday.
Tai Verdes is one of TikTok’s newest and biggest stars. The 6-foot 7-inch ex-collegiate basketball player joined TikTok, which evolved from a defunct app called Musical.ly, at the start of 2020. He gradually built up followers and view counts with short videos, 15 seconds to a minute long, and 200,000 views a video quickly turned into 20 million with his breakout song, “A-O-K.” Several songs off of his debut album, “TV,” have become mainstream hits, blasting on primetime radio, and he signed to a record label in October 2020, he said.
Kane, 29, is three seasons into a seven-year, $49 million contract. He’s with his third organization after being drafted by and debuting with Atlanta/Winnipeg and a stint in Buffalo. Lollapalooza opened Saturday for what is typically the busiest day of the four-day festival, with the sun out, temperatures rising and new rules in place requiring masks in all indoor spaces on festival grounds — in practice that means the box office, the merchandise stores near Buckingham Fountain and bathrooms, but not open-sided tents such as cocktail lounges.
“This team, we always believe we’re gonna find a way to win. And I think you saw that tonight. The way this team came together, kept fighting, playing for each other, pushing and pushing and pushing for 120 minutes,” she said. “And then to have those four step up and bury their four penalties. We won as a team. That was a true team effort.”
