“It adds a lot to the excitement, but the players have talked about it all year long, even when it was at whatever the percentage was, (the fans) were so loud, it felt like it was two, three times the number of people here,” La Russa said Friday. “I’m sure if we can give them something to get excited and be entertained by, it’ll be even better. But fans have already made their presence felt and have been part of our success at home.”

“Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the district utilized alternative methods of instruction for students who required home or hospital-based instruction and other services, but these were not deemed as ‘remote instruction,’” CPS spokesman James Gherardi said Thursday, adding that the term was “specifically utilized during the pandemic to describe school or districtwide home-based instruction to ensure the safety of all students and staff.”

“Due to a recent outbreak of COVID-19 related to Student Camp June 13-17, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our 4th & 5th grade Crossing Camp,” the website said, adding that this session is rescheduled for August. “We were so looking forward to spending time with your campers this weekend, but we believe the best way to value and love our students, difference makers and staff is to delay camp until a safer time.”

Giannoulias previously received the endorsement of the politically active Service Employees International Union State Council, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 881 and Local 1546, 14 locals in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees union, Painters District Local Council 30, Plasterers and Cement Mason’s Local 502 and the Illinois Pipe Trades Association.
