The indictment, which also named Guzman and several of his top henchmen, alleged the cartel used jumbo jets, submarines and tunnels to smuggle massive amounts of drugs into the U.S., much of which was later distributed in wholesale quantities through a network built by Chicago twins Pedro and Margarito Flores.

Alibet Mendoza, 33, of the 1500 block of S. Austin Blvd, Cicero, was charged with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence _ accident causing death, possession of a controlled substance and several misdemeanor traffic offenses. Mendoza’s bond was set at $500,000, with 10 % to apply, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth.
“I think it’s virtually impossible for an alderman to be able to fulfill their responsibility to their ward and residents who are in need, particularly now, when they have the sword of Damocles hanging over their head, and that is a federal indictment,” Lightfoot said at an unrelated news conference. “I’ve had that conversation with Ald. Austin. I will continue to be in dialogue with her. But I think it’s very difficult for her to be able to do her job, just as it is the others who are indicted. It’s an extraordinary thing that we have three sitting aldermen indicted.”

The accelerator, set to be located at 1801 Maple Ave., will provide space for startup companies led by Northwestern personnel in health, life sciences and related fields, according to a news release. The space is intended to be collaborative in nature between the university and the city of Evanston.
“Here, the charges are not based on political logrolling, but rather, on private benefits in the form of jobs, contracts, and payments offered to be paid by a private company in order to influence and reward a legislator in carrying out his official duties,” the motion stated.
“It probably affected some of that, with making sure that that fine line that you don’t reinjure somebody — especially the soft tissue stuff,” he said. “That’s the stuff that scares me and I know it scares a lot of people. You get that soft-tissue (injury), then you’re talking two, three, four weeks. That’s where there’s a balance.”
Lollapalooza, which also took place on Park District property and saw 100,000 people per day descend on Grant Park during the four-day festival in late July and early August, required attendees to show a negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours of entrance or proof of vaccination. The average daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Chicago has more than doubled in the weeks since the festival, and the city has since implemented an indoor mask mandate.
