The foodies are on alert again, as the 2nd Annual Elements of Taste Food Truck Festival is happening Sat. June 1. This festival will feature all Black food vendors, and other Black businesses.

Being that Black people all over the city will be celebrating for Juneteenth, this food truck festival serves as the perfect kick off for a string of jubilant events.

“June is Black business and Black empowerment, and we want to see everybody come out. We want to see everybody grow and prosper,” Natasha Harper told The TRiiBE. “That’s what this is about, community coming together.”

Harper is the public relations chairman of Monarch Awards Foundation. The festival is produced by Monarch, a not-for-profit charitable organization, based on the South Side. The foundation focuses on implementing community service programs, scholarships, and charitable donations to other not-for-profits, amongst other charitable acts.

Per a statement on their website by the organization’s President, Shannon B. Staton, the foundation strives to “Provide programs that matter and make a difference in various communities in Chicago.”

Elements of Taste will not only feature Black food vendors and businesses, but will also feature a DJ, and fun activities for kids, like face painting, double dutch and more.

Harper said of last year’s festival, “It was beautiful just to have people from all ages, different walks of life, just having a great time. It was beautiful.” Harper hopes the festival can continue to expand, and gain more traction within the community. “I just think every year it could get better with participation,” she said.

The festival will be held at the lot of Park Manor Christian Church at 8330 S. King Drive from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

This year’s  festival will host six food trucks including:

  • Funnel Cakes & Icee Man
  • Plant Based City
  • Haire’s Gulf Shrimp
  • Whadda Jerk
  • Nexx Flava
  • FS Food Group

Non Food Vendors include:

  • Sunshyne Pals
  • Scents By DMW
  • GCA Unlimited Apparel
  • PinkNGreen Girl
  • Calandra’s Handbags ‘N’ Things
