16-year-old girl fatally wounded, another girl, 14, left in critical condition in West Side shooting

A 16-year-old girl was arguing with someone Tuesday night when he pulled out weapon and fatally shot her before running off in the Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 8:15 p.m., the girl was shot in an eye in the 5000 block of West Washington Boulevard and was taken to Loretto Hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. She was identified as Jamica Wright, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Witnesses told police they saw the girl with a weapon before she was shot, authorities said.

Another 14-year-old girl at the scene suffered a gunshot wound to the eye and also was taken to Loretto Hospital where she was listed in critical condition. The girl was standing with a group in an alley when she heard shots and felt pain.

No one was in custody for the shootings, and detectives were investigating.
