A man and a woman were killed Tuesday night when their utility terrain vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree near Antioch, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
Police have not yet released their identities, pending completion of autopsies. They were Antioch-area residents, police said.
The accident happened at about 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of West Dressel Road and Douglas Avenue.
The man, 56, who was driving, and the woman, 50, were westbound on West Dressel when their UTV suddenly veered off the road and struck a large tree. Both were partially ejected, authorities said.
They were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt or helmet, police said.
Police said they do not know why the vehicle veered off the road. The accident remains under investigation.
