The federal government is investigating the critical shooting of two West Virginia National Guardsmen three blocks north of the White House.  The unnamed guardsmen, who were armed, are at a local hospital in the DC area.

According to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, the two National Guard members were “targeted” by an alleged lone suspect in front of a Metro station in the Farragut Square area of the city.

Fellow Guardsmen in the immediate area heard the shooting and subdued the suspect until D.C. Metropolitan police arrived on the scene.

Immediately following the shooting, the White House was on lockdown for about an hour, and Reagan National Airport had curtailed air traffic due to the medevac circumstances of the victims.

FBI Director Kash Petal acknowledged that the full force of the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies, along with local authorities, will bring the perpetrator to justice.

President Trump says to the National Guard, “We are with you.”  As for the suspect, the president says he “ will pay a very steep price!”

Meanwhile, in the wake of this afternoon’s targeted shooting, the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth plans to deploy 500 more troops to Washington, D.C.

Last week, a federal judge ruled that sending the National Guard to the District of Columbia was illegal, concluding that the president lacks authority to send in troops “for the deterrence of crime.”
