Scattered showers and thunderstorms were forecast to move northeast beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday, affecting areas northwest of Interstate 55 and the western and northern metro area, said meteorologist Mike Bardou of the weather service’s Chicago-area forecast office. He said there is a 30-40% chance of rain in the afternoon, and any “popcorn” showers may be short-lived. The likelihood of storms will increase through the evening, and thunderstorms were expected after midnight, Bardou added.
