KEM’s 2010 song “Share My Life” is one of those silky ballads that goes down smoother than a caramel latte. Yet, his journey in overcoming addiction and homelessness to become a world-renowned, Grammy-nominated artist was anything but that.
He’ll share his story when he discusses his new memoir “Share My Life: A Journey of Love, Faith and Redemption“ at Pastor Otis Moss III’s “Book Notes” discussion series at Trinity United Church of Christ Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT in Chicago. The event will also be streamed.
On Friday, KEM and Pastor Moss joined The Chicago Defender for an exclusive Instagram Live chat where the singer shared why he joined collaborator David Ritz to write the book.
“This is the exact right time, the exact right season for me to expound on what so many of my fans have heard bits and pieces of over the years,” he said. “And the reason that’s important to me is that I look at what I do as ministry, on the stage and off the stage.”
“I look at my life and the things that I’ve been allowed to overcome as testimonies that should be shared with people.”
KEM’s Raw and Riveting Story
“Share My Life” isn’t some self-help book or typical music industry yarn about making it as an artist. Instead, it’s KEM’s raw, unvarnished truth.
“His story, his experiences, the challenges that he faced and to find himself where he is now, is literally nothing but the grace of God,” said Pastor Moss.
“For all of those who have experienced trauma, who’ve had some family drama, I would suggest, please read KEM’s book!” Moss added.
In the end, KEM hopes that anybody who reads “Share My Life” will gain something valuable and life-changing.
“I’ve had healing take place in my life and transformation take place in my life because somebody shared their story with me,” KEM said.
“My hope is that I can do the same with this book.”
