Police warn of string of at least 15 armed robberies, most of them in Humboldt Park

Police are investigating a string of at least 15 armed robberies, most of which have taken place in Humboldt Park, since late October. One of the robberies occurred in Austin.

The suspects, police said, approach on foot or pull up in a vehicle, pull out handguns and then demand and take the victims’ belongings. In one of the robberies, the suspects took a vehicle.

Additionally, in one of the incidents, the suspects pistol-whipped the victim. In another one of the robberies, they fired a shot toward the victim.

Police have described the suspects in a community alert as three to four males, 16 to 29 years old, between 5-foot-5 and 6 feet tall, between 130 and 160 pounds, usually wearing dark-colored clothing and black ski masks. A female between 17 and 18 years old was involved in one of the robberies, police said.

The first four robberies took place on Oct. 21 in Humboldt Park. The first one was in the 3400 block of West Huron Street at 2:23 a.m. The second took place in the 1000 block of North Trumbull Avenue at 6:50 a.m., immediately followed by two robberies in the 1100 block of North Monticello Avenue at 6:55 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Two robberies took place on Oct. 26. The first was in the 1000 block of North Lawndale Avenue between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. and the second occurred shorty after in the 3500 block of West Thomas Street at 6:30 a.m.

Oct. 29 saw four more robberies. At 5:43 a.m., the first robbery took place in the 1000 block of North Central Park Avenue. Shortly after at 6 a.m., another robbery occurred in the 500 block of North Springfield Avenue. Two more robberies occurred in the 3300 and 3700 blocks of West Huron Street at 8 a.m. and 8:52 a.m., respectively.

Three robberies occurred on Nov. 4. The first one was in the 1000 block of North Pulaski Road at 1:12 a.m., the second one in Austin, in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue at 1:39 a.m., and the third one in the 1000 block of North Lawndale Avenue at 9:10 p.m.

The two latest robberies took place on Nov. 6 in the 600 block of North Saint Louis Avenue between 1:30 and 1:50 p.m.
