Philadelphia Eagles player Josh Sills was charged Wednesday with rape and kidnapping near his Ohio hometown, less than two weeks before his team will play in the Super Bowl.

Sills, 25, was accused of raping a woman and holding her against her will on Dec. 5, 2019 in Guernsey County, Ohio. The alleged victim was not identified.

“The crime was immediately reported, and the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office conducted a detailed investigation,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s office said Wednesday in a press release.

Sills was summoned to appear in Guernsey County court on Feb. 16, four days after the Super Bowl.

“The organization is aware of the legal matter involving Josh Sills,” the Eagles said in a statement. “We have been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information.”

Sills, a backup offensive lineman from Sarahsville, Ohio, earned a roster spot with the Eagles after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent before the 2022 season. However, he played only four special teams snaps across 19 games.

He played zero offensive snaps and was inactive for most games, including the team’s NFC Championship Game victory over the San Francisco 49ers, which set up their Feb. 12 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
