Off-duty officer confronted by gunman, no one injured, Chicago police said

Detectives are investigating after a gunman fled the scene of a confrontation with an off-duty police officer Friday night on the Southwest Side, officials said.

Shortly after 11 p.m., an off-duty officer was involved in a confrontation with an armed individual in a vehicle in the 2800 block of West 47th Street. The officer pulled out a weapon and opened fire, Chicago police said in a statement.

The gunman fled the scene in the vehicle, police said.

No one was injured during the incident and detectives were investigating.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability are investigating the use of force, and the officer involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.
